What is an advance decision?

An Advance Decision, also known as a ‘Living Will’, is an official document to be placed on your medical records, stating your specific instructions regarding choices of treatment should you be unable to communicate your wishes at the time medical care is required.

Who can make a living will?

A Living Will can be made by anyone aged over 18 with the mental capacity to make decisions about their choice of health care.

It is vital that an Advance Decision is well drafted in order to be effective. Considerations such as future medical developments must be included. The document must also have no ambiguity.

Garratts Wills solicitors can help with this sensitive area of the law.
